A bizarre day. We buy a Interrail card for Angus and then discover that all the trains he wants require reservations - and that there are none left. Whoops.

Into Edinburgh to reclaim Angus’ phone from a flat on Leith walk where it has languished for weeks. It’s all arranged, but when we get there there’s no answer. We start off to Glasgow and then my phone rings. The guy has been asleep & not heard the phone, painful U-turn, delay, but phone saga complete.

I deposit Angus, complete with new vacuum cleaner, at the flat. I’m Glasgow Concert Hall bound for a kd lang gig. The 2nd anniversary of her 25th anniversary Ingenue tour. The support is the Gregorian Brothers - amazing guitar skills.

Then kd’s big band sound. Luxurious, virtuoso stuff. I’m ignorant of the album and her oeuvre - it’s beautiful, chilled, but not my style. She does an extensive intro to her band - stand up material, plenty of laughs. Then she closes with tunes from three Canadians:
- Joni Mitchell’s Help Me. She tried her best, but it’s hard to cover Joni & well, shucks, didn’t work for me.
- Neil Young’s Helpless. Didn’t sound anything like Neil, but was a great cover - all her own
- Leonard Chen’s Hallelujah. Again, completely different to Len’s (and Jeff’s), but very good.
