Fire slowly quenched

Phew! What a scorcher! as a well known national newspaper may well say. It turned out as forecast, a hot summer’s day with temperatures rising possibly to an all time record high on Thursday.

Thankfully, I’m not on the railway on Thursday but I am tomorrow and it’s going to be uncomfortably warm in the signalbox at Wittersham Road. Not as warm as it will be on the footplate with a roaring fire in front of you. South East Railways are running a limited service on Thursday, with trains travelling slower than usual to cope with the high temperatures. Wrong kind of sun?

A conference call this morning then prepared and painted the garden gate, the gate frame and one side of one fence panel this afternoon. That part of the house was in the shade and has a pleasant breeze blowing too so it was not too unbearable.

We went for our walk as temperatures began to cool with the setting sun, which proved to be ideal for today’s blip.

So Boris is our new PM. I suppose the world will go on just as it did in June 2016 after the referendum and when Trump was elected. Can’t say I’m convinced that Boris has any other interests at heart other than self interest.
