keen as mustard

The builders were constructing a new roof for our new (old) house yesterday.  Eventually the foreman stopped them in the afternoon, the heat becoming just too much.

They were working really hard this morning - the internal walls have all now been constructed.  Suddenly it's becoming our home and we can begin to see how it's going to work for us.  No amount of peering over drawings can make up for actually standing in a room.

The highlight for me is the room we've chosen as a study (see Anniemay).  I stood in it for the first time today and could see beyond the roof tops to beautiful countryside in the distance.  A room to sit and think in.

We've taken a bit of a risk with this house; derelict when we first saw it and almost impossible to visualise.  But we trusted the builders and their vision of what it could become.  They're planning to have it finished by the end of August before we have to vacate our rented home.  We'll see.

When they were excavating around the old factory building, the builders came across thousands of Taylor's mustard pots from the late 1800s and early 1900s, buried in the ground. They have a few left in good condition.  We'll find a place to display this one when we finally get to move in.
