One Day at a Time.....

"One of the hallmarks of Lewy body dementia is the fluctuation of cognitive functioning. Oftentimes, a person may function fairly well one day and, on the next, be totally disengaged with a sudden and profound loss of memory."

The top photo was taken by my mom on Thursday. The bottom photo was taken by me on Sunday. For the first time in months my dad got outside for some fresh air on Thursday. It's been a long struggle to get his health stable for this moment with many disappointments along the way..

We credit his Hospice Team that discontinued medications that were doing more harm than good at this point along with adding a bit of Morphine to control the pain he has. Not only was he very happy but his grandson was able to sit on his lap for awhile... Precious moments.

He didn't stay in that wheelchair very long though as he mentioned he was super tired and wanted to sleep. He is sleeping more and more now but considering the challenges he had the last year - of keeping the care staff up, yelling, tearing pillows apart and all.. sleep helps everybody.

Today when I went and saw him he was sleeping at first.. and when he awoke, besides saying hi and all.. I asked him if he could drink some water, how was he doing, and..  I got him to drink 1/2 a cup of water. He said he felt OK. Almost all the rest was mumbles and sleep.. It was good to see him peaceful and not restless...

Headed to Bellingham tomorrow
