Vendanges Tardives

A lazy blip today: it's part of last night's new year's celebration, but taken at 2am today, so technically, it qualifies, right? :)

This is one of my favorite wines: a Gewurtztraminer vendanges tardives, from my home region of Alsace. A vendange tardive is made from selected grapes which were left on the vines until after the first frost. These frozen grapes have a very high concentration of sugars, making for a very sweet wine, with a rich body and deep golden color.

It's used with fine appetizers such as foie gras or as a dessert wine. Or in my case, as a way to quietly top off the evening after our guests left :)
