Swarm of Painted Ladies

M went down the road to feed a neighbours cat this morning  and found swarm of Painted Lady butterflies on her buddleia (apologies for poor quality of photo- butterflies are difficult to photograph with an iPhone).
 
 
This influx of Painted Ladies is reckoned to be a once in a decade phenomenon. Nobody knows why.
 
On Friday the Big Butterfly Count begins organised by the Butterfly Conservation charity and runs until August 11.
