The Lozarithm Lens

Smokey 0929 hr (Thursday 1st August 2019)

Today I get a shiny new purple camera as this is my 3,000th blip, and appropriately it is of Smokey. My first ever blip was taken in August 1960 and the fourth frame on that first roll of 127 negative film was of my first cat, Dandy, who must have been about five or six at the time. He was sprawled out on my bed with sunlight streaming in through the window. I probably hadn't realised what effect this would have on the resulting black and white image - an early lesson in photography and light.
This is the 480th blip of Smokey, my sixth cat, all different, all wonderful characters.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Fairport Convention - Tale In Hard Time (recorded April-October 1968, Chelsea, London)

If you pick up a copy of the current Mojo, you will find with it comes a CD called Island Radicals, which documents the history of the Island Records label from its first British signing, John Martyn, up to 2010, with PJ Harvey's Let England Shake album. It's an excellent and diverse compilation that runs chronologically (curiously omitting the years 1980-2007) and gives me the excuse to include one of the selections as I played the whole disc on this day. Tale In Hard Time comes from one of my favourite ever albums, What We Did On Our Holidays. Incredibly it was just one of three groundbreaking albums the Fairports released in 1969, making lightweights of 2019's recording artistes!
