Apollo 7

Not as famous as Apollo 11 (first moon landing), this is the capsule from Apollo 7.  The first manned flight of the program, and a crucial 11 day test of the updated capsule (extensively modified after fire killed Apollo 1's crew on the pad).

In the year that marks the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, when I've seen, read and heard a lot on the subject, it's fascinating to spend time looking at a capsule that flew in space.  From the crew space and instrumentation to the scorch marks (and bubbled windows) from the heat of re-entry.

A pleasant lunchtime trip to the Frontiers of Flight museum before and afternoon of setting up and other work bits and bobs.
