Botanical watercolours

Muriel Harrison (1905-1989) was born in Somerset and as a child developed a great love for the natural world and especially for botany.
She led a very busy life as a nurse in south central China and later as the wife of a Methodist minister in the U.K.
It was not until her later life that she found time to develop her talent as a botanical artist.
Her daughter has now given a collection of her mother’s paintings to the Arnside and Silverdale AONB Landscape Trust and today we were able to view about twenty of them in an exhibition mounted by the Trust.
The paintings are high quality watercolours and are a great delight to see. She was clearly very talented and I believe the painting was done out in the field rather than in a studio.
The extra shows a second example.
