Wanderings & Witterings

Seafield

A linear walk today with Cumbernauld & Kilsyth Ramblers. Starting at Blackburn (the West Lothian version) the first part of our walk took us through Easter Inch Moss and Seafield Law Local Nature Reserve. We then walked down towards, across and along the River Almond, past the Almond Valley Heritage Centre and finished in Livingston Village before catching the bus back to our start-point.

Easter Inch Moss is a area of peat bog which the local council are restoring with the help of Scottish Natural Heritage, while Seafield Law (pictured) is a former oil shale bing, again landscaped and transformed by West Lothian Council into quite a pleasant little hill with good views over the surrounding countryside.

Twenty out today, on a day where rain threatened more than once but never amounted to anything significant. Warm, though, and we had various stops to add and then remove assorted layers of clothing as the conditions changed.
