Going, going, gone!

To East Bristol Auction house this morning to attend their specialist military auction and to see for how much my Uncle’s cigarette card album sold. This was taken before the auction started, but even so there were only about 20 people attending the auction in total. Having said that, bids were coming in thick and fast from around the world, via the internet and phone. My lot was purchased by somebody in India!

I won’t be retiring on the profits though, the album sold for a disappointing amount, half the estimate that I was given at the valuation day. The auction house has a good reputation, an episode of the BBC’s Antiques Roadtrip was filmed there last week, and they were recently in the news for selling the original playscript for the Two Ronnies “fork handles/four candles” sketch for a record amount. Shame the same couldn’t be said for my lot!

Got home just in time to avoid the torrential rain that has lasted all day, and is set to continue into the night...
