Dahlias

Dahlias originally came from Mexico. Indeed the Dahlia is the Mexican national flower. They are named after a Swedish botanist called Dahl.
They are botanically related to Sunflowers, Daisies, Chrysanthemums and Zinnias.

We used to grow them many years ago, but do not do so now. This was in a garden which I passed on my walk.

They are divided into several categories and it will not surprise you to know that this one is a Cactus Dahlia.

I seem to recall that when we grew them I thought they were very good for anyone who had a scientific interest in Earwigs.
