Last Orchid of the Summer

Autumn Lady’s tresses. (Spiranthus spiralis)

A little outing today to see these tiny orchids which grow on two National Trust sites in Silverdale.
The leaves are a tiny flat rosette and the flowering stalk is no more than 2 to 3 inches tall.
The tiny white orchid flowers open in a spiral round the stem - hence the Latin name.
They are mainly found on chalk and limestone grassland in the south of England and Wales but we are lucky enough to have them on our limestone grassland on the edge of Morecambe Bay.

My extra today is a Bumblebee. I find them difficult to photograph and identify but as this one is a little better than most of my efforts I have decided to include it.
