Sailing at Caesar Creek

Tuesday

Today we went sailing with Roger’s friend Phil on his catamaran at Caesar Creek Lake - actually very close to where were cycling yesterday. We were originally to have met at a car park a little north of here at 3pm, and then driven up together. Phil still works part time, and says the wind is better in the afternoon anyway. However, the forecast called for storms coming through early evening, so we moved it forward to 1pm. Whilst he now keeps the boat at the state park, it is not actually on the water, but in a storage field close by. So it took a little while to pick it up, tow it to the lake, and transfer the stuff from his car boot to the boat. My blip was taken at this point, in the car park, as I didn’t want to take my camera or iPhone on the water - just in case! We keep meaning to get one of these waterproof boxes, but we still haven’t done it! Once we got out on the water, the wind was quite “frisky”, but unfortunately it wasn’t long before the clouds were looking rather grey, and we heard thunder and saw lightening in the distance. So we felt it would be advisable to get ashore and get of the boat. We were closer to the other side of the lake at this point, so pulled into a dock on that side of the lake. Phil had brought along some drinks and snacks in a small cooler, so we sat on the deck, chatting and munching away, while waiting for weather to pass, which it did fairly quickly, and the skies began to clear a bit. By this time, the wind had dropped quite a bit, but we eventually managed to find some, and sailed for perhaps another hour and a half, before once again the clouds began to look a little threatening, and Roger thought he heard thunder again, so we decided to call it a day, and headed back to our launching dock, which was just as well, as within 10 minutes of being offi the water, it was throwing it down!. We had to sit in the car quite a while, before we could prepare the boat for towing back to its field. We eventually got it back in its place, and we headed home, stopping for dinner on the way. A fun afternoon, even if not exactly as planned!
