Huntly Castle

Home of the Gordon Clan with the ostentatious 1st Marquis' inscription carved on the front of the building proclaiming his rise from earl to marquis in the early 1600s. The families stong ties with royalty and catholicism were their down fall. the marquis being executed in the Civil War. The castle stayed in the Gordon family until the 1920s by which time it was quite ruined. The current Marquess of Huntly lives not in Huntly but in Aboyne . Friend K and I and Luna the dog (see yesterday) explored the castle and , on the way home, the mysterious Loanhead stone circle (extra). I've not seen stone circles full of stones before, The centre seems to have been  the crematorium of 4000 years ago.
