Kirk of St Nicholas

This beautiful window is in The Oil Chapel , designed by a local artist, Shona MacInnes, it depicts the traditional life, work and culture of North East Scotland and especially of Aberdeen, where it sits surrounded by its two rivers - the Dee and the Don. It depicts the work of agriculture and fishing, and of civic and academic life right up to the impact of North Sea oil and gas.
Blipper Robin gave me a morning tour of Aberdeen  He is responsible for introducing me to Blip when I left our mutual past employer. As well as the two shots on his page, we visted the leopard designed by the same artist as the Kelpies, but likely not such a draw, hidden as it is in a shopping/ office block, I did by coincidence bump into another former oil industry collegue also admiring the leopard. We must be drawn to Abereen as tourists because of the impact of the oil industry on our lives.
Oh and another interesting fact, this church is the Mother Kirk of the area. Once a year it was tradition to visit the Mother Church of your parish on, yes you've guessed it,  Mothering Sunday, nothing to do with mothers and flowers and cards and lunches.
