The Gathering of the Clans

Today was the annual Argyll Gathering in Oban. Anywhere else it would probably be called the Highland Games, but this is obviously a step above that! Unfortunately the weather was rather ropey, raining on and off for most of the day. I was helping to man, if that's an allowable word,  the Scottish Wildlife Trust table in the Heritage Tent, so didn't have to venture out into the rain! Most of my pictures were taken inside.

The event is very much one of social division. The elite of the county, all kilts and bunnets, long waxed cotton coats and fancy waterproof hats, enjoy luncheon in the reserved marquee, while the hoi polloi stand in the rain in their baseball caps, munching burgers and swigging beer!

I thought that this chappie, too busy reading a text to notice me, was a good example of the Scottish gentleman of today, complete with a brace of the correct canine companions!

I've added a few extras of other folk.
