Last Legs

The dog days seem to be behind us as the wildflowers start to show signs their best is behind them. Although brilliant red and eye catching, the cardinal flower begins blooming at the base of the stem and like a sparkler (firework) that fizzes out along its length, the petals at the base have already wilted as the top ones reach peak performance.

I'm enjoying the out of focus shapes that put all the emphasis on the main stem.
