Rebus

It's a bit of a cliche these days but here's John Rebus's howff.

I was off to the Book Festival, not to see Ian Rankin, though I have done in previous years, but writers Kerry Hudson and Sarah Smarsh. I thought they were very good, both striking the right note between the reality of their early lives and their situations now.

It might be considered foolish to take two dogs into Edinburgh on the train on the last weekend of the Festival but it was actually OK. Busy of course but the travel has gone smoothly and the crowds weren't too thronging.

It's hot though and a bit too much in the city centre. Decided against staying in town to eat and I'm looking forward to sitting in the garden. We did that last night till after 11pm along at our friends' house. It was a lovely evening with good food and good company.
