Tree sculpture

I busy day in the garden today but I had a quick visit to Formby and thought this might make an interesting blip. It is carved from a large tree which stood here until recently. It was one of a row of Horsechestnut trees which lined the main street which the council ruled were diseased and unsafe and needed to be removed. There was quite an outburst about it with a save our trees campaign. But eventually it came down but this sculpture was made from the trunk. Formby is believed by some to have been a viking settlement and hence the design.
