Swum

Sarah's swim was delayed for 5 hours because of the wet and  windy weather, so we had a nice relaxed morning with a walk and some blackberry picking. At 1pm we drove along the narrow and winding road to Coniston and parked at the school where Sarah changed into her wetsuit and caught a shuttle bus to the start of the race at the southern end of the lake.

D, Chris and I then had about 4 hours to while away and we were too focused on Sarah to have a proper plan of our own. So we walked a couple of miles along the lake shore, a couple of miles back, drank some lime and sodas in the Yewdale Inn and then walked to the finish at Monk Coniston Carpark.

It was exciting to see all the swimmers approach the finish and walk out of the lake. Over 700 had set off in staggered "waves" depending on how quick they could swim. It was even more exciting when one of those swimmers was Sarah. Her time was 3 hours and 6 minutes for 5.25 miles.

Instead of getting on the shuttle bus, she walked the extra mile (barefoot) with us, back to the school.

What a girl :-)
