Run!

This morning, while we were waiting for the Minx and miniMinx to arrive from Leeds festival via an overnight stay in Birmingham, we went down to Heartland, which we discovered by accident, yesterday. After a quick mooch around the town, we followed the signs down to Heartland Quay, which had a bit more going for it.

Tempted though we were by the museum, we went down to the small cove, where Milly and Hannah tested the water (cold!), followed by lunch at the Wreckers Retreat Bar. Milly, Hannah, and I are going to try to run every day, and we noticed a map showing three different routes: easy, moderate, and moderate/strenuous. We decided we'd come back and try one of them later on although in the end Hannah took the easy route and Milly and I took the moderate/strenuous one.

Now I'm not sure who assesses these walks and grades them but blimey the moderate/strenuous was quite a challenge! The first three miles or so went a mile in land before cutting west, cross country, to the coast, and that was where the fun really began. While we'd already done some fairly challenging up and down hill sections, we were now on the coastal walk, which repeatedly* took us up to the cliff tops and back down to the beach.

In the end we did 6.75 miles, which is a long run for Milly even before you take the ridiculous climbs into account. I was really proud of her tenacity and stamina. Here she is, on one of the tops, looking along the coast. In the end it took us one and a half hours, which I reckon was very good going. We met Hannah back at the carpark and her run had also been far from easy!

Still, we'd certainly earned our dinner, after which we took a walk down into Clovelly for a drink at the New Inn, followed by a belated birthday party for the miniMinx (see Extra).

*well, three times, I think.
