Calling Time

Doesn't seem five minutes since the ground was covered in low growing green plants in the spring. And now many of the flowers are in decline, leaving behind their stalks and heads and dried petals waiting to drop.

I think these were coneflowers at one time. I like the spiky heads. Perhaps they are sharp to deter birds from stealing the seeds. I don't know.

I like the overall dominance of warm tones, but I think the appeal is the contrast of textures between the rough decaying plants and the softer flowers behind. I think perhaps I should have left more room to the left side, but then it does add some tension with the stalk leaning in that direction.
