Sgwarnog: In the Field

Draw

A goalless draw, but one full of attacking play, chances and great saves.

Guiseley were hosting York City in this National League North fixture. York are most people’s favourite to win the league, and indeed they top it after a few games. Guiseley, after two dreadful years, have built a much younger team and made a strong start to the season. A draw was probably a fair result.

I thought this season's York kit looked quite smart, although they've opened themselves to Y-front related ribaldry from opposing fans.

Unfortunately the bumper crowd brought a fair amount of disorder outside the ground both before and after the match. I had to skirt a stand-off/scuffle on the way to the ground from the station and then after the match, although I held back leaving for 10 minutes or so, there were police everywhere responding to various incidents and a fairly tense atmosphere. There are a small number of idiots following every club, but it is jarring to encounter such behaviour in non-league, where overall fan culture is convivial.
