The Victoria Cinema Inverurie

Most towns have an art deco building or two. London has arguably the most including Orwell's Ministry of Truth better known as Senate House which was rumoured to have been favoured by Hitler as his UK headquarters and that dubious OXO building which I have never liked the taste of.
My home town, which I decline to name, pulled down its art deco heritage to build a few retail units. Fortunately however, due mostly to luck and good solid design, most Scottish towns have preserved the heritage.
Cambeltown, Ballater, Stonehaven and my local town Inverurie have good examples of the genre.
This image is of the Victoria Cinema in Inverurie. It opened in 1934 and closed in 1998, it's now a pub.
I am sure however that the architect, Scott Sutherland, would have pleased that his creation is still in use after all those years.
On a more personal note, that's where I saw Braveheart in the company of 455 fellow cinemagoers. Some folk would argue that that film, despite the Hollywood take and non Scottish lead made folk think seriously about a Scottish Parliament.
But that's another story.
