Wihr-au-Val

We wanted to have another look round Turckheim,, one of the many Alsatian picture-postcard towns and villages near where we're staying, but the road was blocked because of a car race. So we drove to the nearest place in the other direction. Not so touristy but still plenty of lovely old buildings such as this gate house next to the town hall. 

There seem to be hundreds of beautiful old places throughout the area; the most picturesque of them are busy with tourists but the rest are still just functioning towns where people make wine, sell food and drink, and raise their children in comfort, if not affluence.
