A Day in the Garden

It is a very murky day here in Rock Creek, Oregon. It felt like it was going to rain all day. Cool, damp, gray, reminiscent of fall. But the gardens are still going strong and I took the opportunity to work with my amazing garden helper in the front perennial border today. One end got overrun with daylilies and mint (ugh!) and it took us two days to pull it all out. Now it looks great and is a blank slate for less aggressive and more appropriate plants.

I've had some interesting visitors to the garden recently, including this wasp (I think) that iNaturalist thinks is in the Philanthinae family. If you've never used this iPhone app it's a very cool way to identify unknown critters. The wasp is feeding on nectar on a Solidago rugosa 'Fireworks'.
