North Kerry day 1: Banna Strand

We travelled up to North Kerry at a leisurely pace, stopping off at Avoca in Moll's Gap, just south of Killarney for a delicious lunch. Then onwards and upwards to our destination in Ballyheigue where I had come to record the holy well there and it's very large pattern/pilgrimage day. A stop off at Lady's Well and it was all going on already - people making the rounds, sitting and contemplating, taking the water. Our host in the B&B was a mine of information on all things Ballyheigue and had already bought his cream buns ( pattern day speciality) and candles ready for the big day. I was offered a bun - puff pastry and cream. It looked quite light. Wrong, it weighed a ton and sat somewhat heavily!  Out to supper, still a bit weighed down by cream bun, and then on to Banna Strand for the sunset. It was all going on there too - dogs romping, lovers canoodling, fishermen wading, toddlers hurtling and lads playing hurling.
