North Kerry day 2: Mermaid

A day of many wells starting off with Lady's Well in Ballyheigue where it was  the pattern day celebrating the birthday of the BVM. Himself excused himself and went off on his own jaunt and I went off to the Mass. There were hundreds of people there and the Bishop of Kerry was in attendance. It went on a long time! I left earlyish marvelling at how well the van selling religious gew gaws was doing - they did  avery brisk trade indeed. The second part of the pattern day is a visit to the fair - all sorts of stalls selling pretty awful stuff, plus chip vans and fortune tellers. All will be written up in the Blog shortly!

We then went off to Fenit to escape the masses - actually it was all going on there too. It was Lifeboat Open Day and we wandered down the pier to be confronted by two extraordinary statues. No wonder this mermaid was looking somewhat surprised, her bosoms are bigger than her head (I was restrained with the thumbnail wasn't I??), and then we climbed up a little pinacle to admire the chunky St Brendan, a young lad obliging with the pose!
