A Brief Return of Summer

Bees in the balsam,
Witches on the roof.
It's been a day for butterflies
And birdsong, forsoof!

Thanks for all the kind comments on my yesterblip. Today we visited birthday-girl, Mr PP's sister, his bro-in-law, and two elderly aunts. They're all staying in a holiday lodge in the heart of the East Devon countryside not far from Axminster and the Jurassic coastline. It was a hot day with a clear blue sky. Just lovely!

These bright pink Himalayan Balsam flowers were attracting bees, flies and hoverflies. There were also loads of butterflies - Red Admirals and cabbage whites. Couldn't resist snapping the bewitching weather vein atop a dove cote and sundial that sported the legend (in French): Without the sun, I am nothing - true enough!

Too hard to pick just one image, so here's a flavour of the day in the form of a collage.

A fine day was had by all!
