Battersea Bridge...

...with a No.49 bus, to give it its full title.

Enjoyed the chance for some freedom to get out for some proper picture taking and as a result I have another bridge for you (hooray I hear you say), honestly I do take pictures of other stuff when I am out, there are just a lot of bridges about.

Battersea Bridge does actually have some interesting fact about it, not the boring who designed it, built it, how much it costs etc. but interesting stuff.

(a) It has a statue of James Abbott NcNeil Whistler (he who likes to paint his mother) at the North end of the bridge. (ok that was a bit boring but stay with me)

(b) The bridge is positioned of a bend in the river and is therefore prone to collisions and in 1948, the MV Delta jammed under the bridge, and its master Hendrikus Oostring suffered broken arms and needed to be rescued. Another serious incident took place on 21 September 2005, when the James Prior, a 200-ton barge, collided with the bridge, causing serious structural damage. The bridge was closed to all vehicles other than buses while repairs were carried out, causing severe traffic congestion; it reopened in January 2006.

(c) Shortly after its reopening following the collision with the James Prior, the bridge a long female bottlenose whale became stranded at Battersea Bridge. A rescue operation was mounted, and large crowds flocked to the bridge. The whale was successfully transferred to a barge, but died while being transported back to the sea to be released, its skeleton was put on public display in the offices of The Guardian newspaper and now resides at the Natural History Museum.

See that was kind of interesting wasn't it? Hope you've all had a great weekend. Thanks for comments, stars and favs for my mono outing at Chiswick yesterday.

Live it LARGE
