Bus Challenge No 173!

The Somerset and Dorset Railway, Midsomer Norton

“...a charitable trust of over 1000 members based at Midsomer Norton, located part-way up the 1 in 50 gradient from Radstock to the highest point of the the old Somerset & Dorset railway at Masbury.... At Midsomer Norton you will find the restored station buildings, signalbox, goods shed and also two museums: one in the original Victorian Stable Block and the other in our WWII Pill Box (a candidate for the smallest museum in Britain). We have two diesel locomotives, a fully restored Sentinel 0-4-0 vertical-boiler steam locomotive, plus freight and passenger rolling stock and static buffet coach open for refreshments... enjoy the atmosphere and exhibits on this once-proud and much-loved holiday route.” https://www.sdjr.co.uk/home

A short outing this afternoon, and a direct bus to Midsomer Norton, to visit The Somerset and Dorset Railway, open as part of the Heritage Open Days programme. Only a small museum but very interesting, and very nostalgic, really felt like we were stepping back in time...

18 degrees and a day of dark heavy cloud, with only the briefest glimpse of the sun, but at least it stayed dry until I was back home again.

Total bus journey time = 1 hour 34 mins
