Lonely ash tree

We took Pepper up the Borrowdale Valley for an afternoon walk.
We saw a red kite flying over, and a family of five kestrels.
We have always loved this solitary ash tree, growing as if from the rock and all windswept. The rock slab was the first climbing experience for our children when they were small, so a special place.
But we realised as we walked up the valley that with the coming of autumn the Ash Die Back is becoming more obvious, some of the ancient trees are succumbing and I fear that this one is too.
Spring will tell, but it would be so sad to lose it.
