Stormy weather

It wasn't a good day today to be outdoors but I was taking a friends place on a Blue Plaque Walk in Sidmouth, part of Sidmouth Walking Festival.  Fortunately it was only for 1.5 hours but took place when the rain was at its most persistent.  The tour was very interesting though and we were introduced to several of the local famous characters including Stephen Reynolds who lived with a local fishing family writing of their lives and campaigning for their rights, we visited a few of the houses that famous people had stayed in including the Royal Glen Hotel where Queen Victoria was taken as a baby - her father died there a few weeks later.  This shot was quickly taken while we were looking at the hotel opposite.  Part of the building was where a library was first introduced, it had various reading material including newspapers of the day, refreshments and toys available. By the end of the tour we were all very wet but stopped to look at the attractive house that Beatrix Potter stayed in for awhile before moving to the Lake District.

A fascinating short tour.  Note to self remember to take waterproof trousers when its persistent rain.
