Windy

Back blip Day 3
We were up and out of the hotel really early to make sure we were in Gills Bay ready to catch the Ferry across to Orkney.
I was on tender hooks as the forecast was not at all good with very strong winds predicted so we were unsure if the ferry would run.
We made it in plenty of time and had a bacon and egg roll in the cafe.We got the window seat and watched the seals bobbing about in the harbour.
The sailing went ahead, no chance of going outside. The crossing was fine, abit Rocky but we made it in one piece, just the Churchill barriers to get across now.
We headed for Kirkwall , water was lapping over the barriers and it was pouring with rain. We shopped in Tesco to get the essentials for the week ahead and dinner for tonight.
A wet walk up to the Cathedral where we were glad to be in the dry and listened to Flutes and Recorders at a lunchtime concert.
It was starting to brighten up.We went to the Peedie Church to see their exhibition of flowers, veg and craftwork. Some fantastic dahlias and a pretty rag doll caught my eye.
We had soup in Judith Glues, a wander round the shops where I bought a colourful t-towel with birds on and a few other bits and pieces including some very tasty looking fudge :)
Back to the car and on our way to Deerness. We’re glad we took the Land Rover now as the way to our self catering was full of pot holes , it was a track not a road ( the roads themselves are pretty good in Orkney ) .
We were greeted by four hares in the field in front and could see gannets surfing over the big waves.
The sky cleared to produce a colourful sunset.
