When the exams were over (the final economics paper coinciding with the first properly hot day of the year), the Summer - and the rest of her life - stretched before her. An infinity to be filled. Faced with such a limitless range of options, she did nothing. Or, rather, she slept in late and watched videos on her phone.

And then, all of a sudden, it was the end of the Summer and the vague promise of a job in the City had become an imminent, concrete reality. On her last free weekend, she visited the seaside and soaked up the last of the Summer’s sun.

The scarcity of the resources driving up their value.
