Something to beef about

Left home at 6.30am to drive to Skirling, near Biggar, where a friend in the BPS (British Pteridological Society) was hosting the Autumn indoor fern meeting. I won't bore everyone with pictures of ferns or pictures of people looking at ferns, but instead I've Blipped a photograph of the Devil's Beeftub, a big hollow in the hills along the road to Moffat, which we took en route to the M6. It's a lovely road, running alongside the River Tweed, but unfortunately with very few laybys or places to stop to take pictures! I had to miss many wonderful opportunities!

It was no fun at all driving down the M6 in the dark, driving rain and spray, but we made it to our overnight stop  in Bamber Bridge. The 'Purple Roomz' was a cheap, commercial traveller-type hotel, but it was OK for a quick overnight stop. Just opposite the front door was the 'Wacky Warehouse', a huge play place for kids! We didn't try it!

Breakfast this morning was in the nearby 'Hungry Horse' - we don't stint ourselves when we're on holiday!
