Yesterday was St Michaelmas Day.  Today in a brief spot of sunshine I noticed a Footballer Hoverfly (Helophilus pendulus) feasting on the wild Michaelmas daisies.  Although they are relatively common hoverflies I have seldom noticed this kind as those in the extra are more usual in my garden.
