We Came And Sang

We spent a happy day at St Cuthbert's Church at a Come And Sing event in aid of Waverley Care, a charity that supports those affected by HIV and Hepatitis C, led by that giant of choral writing and arranging, John Rutter and accompanied by Morley Whitehead. In the lower photo you may notice John is wearing a tartan AIDS ribbon, the Scottish version.

Many of the pieces John selected for us to sing  held a special significance for him, especially Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, which, at the age of 12, impressed him so deeply that he realised his future would lie in music. Indeed, during his career he has rubbed shoulders with many of the great names in the choral world.

We were introduced to new pieces, including one of his own that is yet to be published. The choir of Edinburgh Academy joined us for the afternoon session, bringing their pure voices to our rather more mature renditions.

John is a joy to work with, he leads with energy and humour, drawing out the best in a motley pack of choral singers from all over the South of Scotland.
