open doors

It was Open Doors day at our local funeral director's today. The poster, which I'd seen at work, promised "behind the scene tours" and a "free finger buffet" (the latter rather strange, I thought).

Jardine's has been run by the same family in Dumfries for 6 generations, since 1862. I had met some of the staff when arranging Virginia's funeral and was impressed by their professionalism and kindness.

Today we were shown around all the premises at the Chapel of Rest including the coffin store, workshop, garage, mortuary and peace gardens, and there was plenty of time for questions. It's good to be able to think about this kind of thing before the need arises, when there isn't any pressure.

The dove is a detail from the memorial window "Freda's Garden" for Arthur Jardine's wife, in the Chapel of Rest.
