Lumberjack

Today's the day …………………… to fell

There was a yellow weather warning for here today - for strong winds and rain - so not the best sort of conditions to do a bit of tree-felling.

But that sort of thing did not deter the trusty band of four that arrived first thing this morning to sort out the trees that have grown around our railway bridge.  There were several large sycamores that had seeded themselves and grown in a random fashion - too near to the stonework.  We had taken advice about them and it was time for them to be sorted.  The added bonus in a year or so will be a good supply of firewood for the stoves.

So they sent the smallest one up the tree to lop off the top branches and get things ready - and they set to with their chainsaws.  They had an incredible machine that ate everything in sight and spewed out a big heap of woodchip - and the stack of logs grew ever bigger.  It was very impressive - but the most impressive thing of all, was how happy and cheerful they were, going about their work in somewhat inclement (to put it mildly) weather conditions.

They'll be back tomorrow to finish off - and the job's a good'un ……………...
