Pincer Movement

I managed to get a viewpoint to this log in the water through overhanging branches on the opposite shore. The outstretched fork of the bough caught in faint sunlight stood out against the dark background in deep shadow and reminded me of a lobster's claw.

My position limited by the surrounding branches, trapped me into this view, requiring accurate timing as they blew in and out of the shot.

I wanted to darken the background to emphasize the light branches, but the shadows became blocked up with insufficient detail. I think in retrospect I should have taken two exposures and blended them to extend the dynamic range.
