Autumn colours in July

I love the colours of this gatekeeper butterfly in my garden. 

The photo extra of the jay made me laugh – it looks like it's pulling a funny face. It's actually chucking a piece of fat down its gullet. The bird table is a new one from a friend who didn't manage to attract any birds to it. She's only up the road and so quite miffed to see this fine specimen on the table here – why didn't it visit her garden (which is lovely)?
