Mardale Beck

Even in mizzle the Lake District colours blow my mind, especially in Autumn. The russet of the dying bracken and the grasses contrasts strongly with the lush green hillside and grey rock. The bracken also provides the perfect camouflage for deer. It was only when a stag stepped out into the open that I spotted him, despite having already heard his low bellowing resonating in the valley. As we watched, eight does and a couple of young became visible. A real treat. I’m returning home soul fed, eyes sparkling and heart full.
