WET

The BBC forecast for today was for light cloud and loads of sunny spells, and no rain.

We drove to Elterwater, and headed up to Lingmoor Fell, which runs from Elterwater, past Blea Tarn, to the Langdale valley.

We were a quarter of the way along Lingmoor Fell when the rain came - and boy, did it come! I've rarely seen rain as heavy - and never been on top of a Fell in it - our waterproof trousers gave up pretty spectacularly, my jacket leaked along its water resistant zip, and we were soaked!

We didn't stop along the fell, and only rested when we reached the Old Dungeon Gill. After a pint, the weather had cleared up a bit, so we walked back along the valley - managed another pint in the Britannia at Elterwater - along with a warming basket of chips - and had a good snooze on the way home.

The photo has gone some way in catching the intensity of the rain.
