Bodiam Castle, East Sussex

Friends Al and Liz were down for the day. After lunch we travelled to Bodiam Castle to view the World Wildlife Photography exhibition on its national tour.

Some stunning photos on display, showing opportunism as well as dedication, planning and sheer good fortune. Bodiam Castle was not the best place to show the shots though. Two of the 4 exhibition spaces were well lit, two were only poorly lit. Those two were also hardly accessible with several flights of steep stone stairs to negotiate. Al had to give up climbing the 36 stairs to one of the spaces.

The photos were not always displayed to their best advantange with the bottom of the three rows at floor level which made it difficult to see the shot and read the information unless you were on your knees. In some cases it was the winning photo which was on the bottom row.

Bodiam Castle never fails to impress though, situated as it is on the River Rother near Bodiam Station on the Kent and East Sussex Railway. Built in1364 it is the image of what everyone expects a castle to look like. Ruined now inside, the outside looks perfect reflected clearly in the moat.
