Transmission Lines

New structures like this one are appearing around the PG&E installation* near River Road and Fulton. It helps explain what might be going on  further up Los Alamos Road which goes behind our house. A couple of months ago there were columns of six to eight double dump trucks going up and down Los Alamos all day long for several weeks. We were wondering what on earth was going on up there but we've been up that very narrow, very winding very exposed road, and had no desire to meet a descending of column of dump trucks if we drove up there to investigate.

Yesterday  a convoy consisting of a flatbed truck escorted fore and aft by flashing escort vehicles and loaded with a large section of metal column like the one in my blip was headed up the road. So it is not a new mountainside vineyard or pot farm, but probably a new set transmission towers that are going in up there, replacing the ones that cross the Mayacamas Mountains behind us, cross the Sonoma and Bennett Valleys below us and climb up Sonoma Mountain.

It was a source of some satisfaction to read that Mel Christopher, the head of PG&E's gas division, who was partying with 60 of his closest friends customers at a posh Sonoma County winery on the very day the power was cut is 'no longer with the company.' Lest one excuse them with the idea that the retreat was planned long before the power cuts, it also coincided with the two year anniversary the North Bay wildfires, most of which the state blamed on PG&E.

Everyone at PG&E needs to be working to better serve our customers and earn back their trust. The timing and location of the event held in Sonoma County, given the 2 year mark of the 2017 North Bay wildfires and the imminent Public Safety Power Shut-off was insensitive, inappropriate and tone deaf...
--Bill Johnson, PG&E CEO who said he wanted Christopher gone.

PG&E's gas operations were implicated in a terrible San Bruno explosion that killed  eight people and destroyed 38 homes nine years ago. It was found that negligent maintenance of the pipeline was a direct cause of the leak.

We had a tiny sprinkle of rain moisture in the night and awoke to a beautiful day washed clean of the accumulated dust of summer by not only the moisture but the afternoon wind. My friend Toni came by this afternoon so we could brainstorm and design an idea she had. far too early to go into detail about what it is....
