Day 5 Copenhagen ....

Day 4 was an at sea day, and the sun shone! (See my extra) We were able to spend some time up on the top deck on sun beds and eating ice cream. It was a formal dress evening, with photos with the captain. A first for us.

Today we arrived in Copenhagen. Originally a Viking fishing village, it is now the  largest metropolis in Scandinavia and considered a a centre of culture and arts. It became the capital of Denmark at the beginning of the 15th century.  Apparently it also has the longest pedestrian street system in the world.

We could have spent hours in the Nyhaven district, watching the canal boats, loving the beautifully coloured houses and enjoying a coffee or a drink. The cobbled streets were a delight and lined with wonderful old architecture. A must to visit again.

The Little Mermaid really is little at only four feet tall, but iconic and has quite a history http://www.denmark.net/little-mermaid-copenhagen/

She sits there on her rock, naked and vulnerable and stared at by thousands of people every day...poor girl...

My second extra made me smile...NOT the Little Mermaid...

I went to a brilliant seminar on Brahms in the afternoon .
