What A Surprise!

We drove to Connecticut this afternoon to attend a party in celebration of the engagement of Paul and his longtime love Sara.  Paul and our youngest son Evan have been best friends since they were ten years old, and they have been through thick and thin together.  Paul spent so much time over at our house over the years that he quickly earned our fond nickname for him -- "our fourth son".  The invitation stated that the happy couple would be exchanging vows at a private ceremony this winter, so you can well imagine everybody's surprise when, about an hour into the cocktail party, which was held at a very swanky car restoration shop, we were all instructed to assemble in a large room at the rear of the space.  There we discovered folding chairs set up in rows, and Paul, his older brother Carlo, and another man standing up at the front!  Moments later, Sara descended some stairs dressed in a beautiful white gown (she had been wearing a pretty cocktail dress just moments before) and, accompanied by her parents, proceeded to walk down the aisle. They had managed to surprise us all!  Seconds after they said their "I Do's" there was a great cheer and wild applause, and more than one set of teary eyes in the delighted crowd.
