“Shall we dance?”

We went to “The King and I” at the Edinburgh Playhouse this evening. Traffic was busy so we parked at the rear of the First Minister’s official residence and walked along Queen St. We met my wife’s sister outside the theatre; we’d previously invited her to join us. This Roger and Hammerstein’s production was a great example of musical theatre - great performances from talented actors/singers/dancers, accompanied by a live orchestra. Set in 1860s Bangkok, “The King and I” tells the story of the unconventional and sometimes fiery relationship between the King of Siam and a British schoolteacher who arrives (with her son) to teach the King’s children. The drama contains political and social undertones and a clash of East/West cultures, and more.
The drive back was unremarkable.
